About This Event
One of the city’s most powerful and enduring cultural traditions will return in summer 2026, as the York Mystery Plays once again bring extraordinary theatre into the heart of the city thanks to the work of York Festival Trust and Artistic Director, Alan Heaven.
The Plays will unfold across a series of striking locations, with Pageant wagons rolling through the city, presenting a sequence of performances rooted in medieval tradition yet boldly reinterpreted for today.
Performances start at Refectory Gardens, Deangate, moving to Kings Square, St, Sampsons Square and finishing in Deans Park. At the first 3 location the plays are free to view. Tickets are now on sale for Deans Park. Early booking is strongly advised.
