About This Event
A one-day course for aspiring printers who have, or want to work with, an Adana printing press. In a small group setting you will learn the basics of letterpress printing and how to use and maintain an Adana. You can bring your own press along for servicing and leave the workshop with a restored Adana and the skills needed to establish your home studio.
The course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience who are looking to take their skills to the next level. It is taught at Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print, an exceptionally well-equipped printing and printmaking studio in the heart of York. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.
The day will be split into three sessions and take you through the fundamentals of letterpress printing and Adana maintenance. You will learn the art of composing type and locking up a forme ready for printing; how to maintain and set up an Adana, including packing; and all about the makeready required to achieve even inking and the perfect print.
Bring your own press for servicing and have it maintained by our expert technicians while you learn. No press? No problem! Speak with our technicians during the course for advice about what you plan to print – from wedding stationary to business cards to your own linocuts – and what to look out for when purchasing equipment.
A 30-minute video call within six-months of the course is included for you to ask any follow-up questions and get advice when you are further along in your printing journey.
