October Half Term at York Minster

9:30 AM - 3:30 PM
York Minster (YO1 8AD)

About This Event

For centuries, pilgrims travelled from across England and beyond to York Minster, seeking hope and healing at the shrine of St William of York. This October half term, families are invited to discover their stories through a programme of immersive experiences, hands-on activities and living history encounters.

Meet medieval pilgrims as they share tales of their journeys to York, learn about life on the road in the Middle Ages, and create your own wax votive just as visitors to the shrine would have done centuries ago. Explore the fascinating story of pilgrimage through interactive displays, family crafts and a unique cinematic experience that brings the lost Shrine of St William back to life using cutting-edge digital technology.

Nature enthusiasts can join the York Minster Gardeners for special autumn activities, discovering how the green spaces around the cathedral support wildlife in the heart of the city. Families can help create bug hotels and learn about the gardeners' work to make the Minster a thriving environment for nature.

Little explorers can also pick up family trails and borrow activity backpacks to help uncover York Minster's 1,400 years of history.

Most activities are included with a York Minster sightseeing ticket, with no pre-booking required. It's the perfect opportunity to step into the shoes of a medieval pilgrim and uncover the stories that have drawn visitors to York Minster for generations.
